Barcelona teenager Gavi has gone from strength to strength since becoming a first-team regular, and he is now becoming a leader within the squad despite his young age.
The 19-year-old has remarkably already made 105 senior appearances, and is becoming a crucial figure for Xavi, particularly with Frenkie De Jong and Pedri injured.
During Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Sevilla, he was not afraid to raise his voice to his teammates, and cameras caught an exchange between Gavi and striker Robert Lewandowski.
What did Gavi say to Lewandowski?
DAZN Sport were able to pick up a conversation between the pair, where Gavi actually berates Lewandowski for giving an unnecessary foul away.
AS have now reported that Gavi had told the veteran off for giving such a needless foul away in the second half, and that Lewandowski accepted the criticism from the youngster.
“Robert, damn. Don’t need it there damn. “Man!” Gavi reportedly shouted at the 35-year-old.
Gavi’s supreme confidence
In top level football, teammates shout at each other all the time, and this should not be viewed as friction between the pair.
It is interesting though, to see Gavi speak to a player 16 years his senior, with such commanding authority. Lewandowski is a player who has won nearly every trophy possible with Bayern Munich, but Gavi still has the confidence to be a leader amongst players like him.
The report from AS has also claimed that Gavi has taken an extra responsibility to help mentor the other young players in the squad. The likes of Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have all broken through since Gavi became a first-team regular, and the Spain international has reportedly helped them settle in the senior side.
Gavi was a vocal player from his very first game in Barcelona colours, and it now seems that he is well on his way to becoming an important leader in the dressing room under Xavi.
