Barcelona manager Xavi has confirmed that young sensation Fermin Lopez will be part of the first-team squad this season, following his stunning cameo against Real Madrid.

The Blaugrana thrashed their rivals 3-0 in a pre-season friendly, and Lopez was the star of the show, scoring a stunner and assisting Ferran Torres off the bench.

The 20-year-old spent last season out on loan at Linares Deportivo, scoring 12 times in 40 games, and has now returned to Barcelona.

It was unclear whether he would continue in the reserve teams or go on another loan, but it now appears that he will stay this season.

Speaking after the game, Xavi praised the young talent and claimed that there is a place for him in the squad.

“I have always said that the coaching staff do not have complexes with young people when you earn it in training,” he stated.

“We have seen Fermin very easy going in this preseason and we believe he can help us throughout the season.”

What kind of player is Fermin Lopez?

The Spaniard typically plays as an attacking midfielder, whilst also being able to play on the left, and showcased how good his output is in the friendly Clasico clash.

His strong right foot makes him dangerous in the final third, and he can add a lot of creativity to the Barcelona attack.

With Pablo Torre being loaned to Girona, Lopez may take his place in the squad as a backup, and can either play in midfield alongside Ilkay Gundogan in a more advanced role, or on the wing.

Playing on the left wing as a fourth central midfielder could be the ideal position for him, in a similar role to how Pedri played against Madrid, who could tuck into the centre when in possession, and provide threat down the left.

If Xavi gives Lopez a chance this season, he could save Barcelona a lot of money in the transfer market if he performs well.
