Barcelona dropped points away at Mallorca in a tough game on Tuesday, but one positive to take was the performance of Raphinha.

The Brazilian has been in and out of the team, but was handed a start and provided a stunning equaliser, scoring Barcelona’s first goal with an excellent finish into the bottom corner.

The 26-year-old looked threatening all game, and he has now handed Xavi a selection dilemma, over who to start on the right against Sevilla tomorrow.

Xavi has to choose between Ferran Torres, Raphinha or Lamine Yamal, and all three are in great form right now.

How did Raphinha play against Mallorca?

In addition to his stunning goal, Raphinha made three key passes and completed three dribbles in what was a very encouraging display. He won seven duels and completed five of his seven long passes.

It was not a flawless display, as he did also miss a big chance, but it was one which may have earned him the starting spot for tomorrow’s game against Sevilla.

His skill on the ball caused Mallorca problems, as he drew four fouls and registered 80 touches, in what was his second start in La Liga this season.

Should Raphinha start against Sevilla?

Xavi’s team selection against Sevilla may be heavily influenced by next week’s game against Porto. Whilst he might be tempted to see if Raphinha can benefit from a consistent run of games, both Ferran Torres, who started upfront against Mallorca, and Yamal, are in excellent form.

Raphinha could start against Sevilla, with Yamal coming off the bench, and Torres playing against Porto next week. This could allow Raphinha to build up rhythm, whilst resting the Spaniard for the Champions League.

Whoever Xavi does pick will now have the extra pressure of delivering a strong performance, knowing that they have fierce competition for their spot in the side, and whilst it is a selection problem for Xavi, it is a good problem to have.
