Barcelona are confident they can avoid previous transfer mistake with new arrivals

Barcelona are set to register all of their players and all of their confirmed signings in time for the start of the new La Liga season, which would see them avoid the problem they faced last year.

The Blaugrana spent heavily last summer to bring in the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, and they had to tinker with their finances to make the deals happen.

Their financial situation was and still is far from stable, and last summer Kounde had to sit out the first few games of the campaign whilst the club attempted to register him, in what was an awkward period for both player and club.

However, SPORT have now revealed that they will not face the same issue this summer in terms of their current squad and the signings they have made, including the expected arrival of Oriol Romeu from Girona. However, Xavi reportedly wants a right-back and another midfielder, and there are no guarantees yet that they will be able to register these new arrivals if the deals happen.

What do Barcelona need in the transfer window?

The Blaugrana have already signed Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan, with Romeu set to follow, but it seems that Xavi is not yet content with his squad.

Whilst a natural right-back may be useful, given that the current options of Kounde and Sergi Roberto are both better suited to other positions, it is arguable that another midfielder may not be necessary in this window.

Romeu and Gundogan are joining a squad which already contains Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Roberto and Franck Kessie, and they are not lacking in numbers in central areas.

Unless Kessie leaves, they may have enough options for the first XI for now, and given the precarious financial position, adding more squad players who may not be guaranteed to start would be somewhat surprising.
