Barcelona currently find themselves in a difficult position ahead of the summer transfer window, and mistakes in the past have proved costly.
The Blaugrana are not only in a difficult financial state off the pitch, but they are also struggling on it, with Real Madrid wrapping up La Liga with ease this season.
Xavi’s side disappointed amid a whole host of injury problems, with senior players also underperforming and there being an increasing reliance on younger players.
Barcelona had the chance to strengthen their squad in January, but made a surprise decision to spend heavily on Brazilian youngster Vitor Roque, and former striker Rivaldo has now questioned the decision.
Brazil and Barcelona legend Rivaldo questions Vitor Roque signing
Speaking to SPORT, the former Barcelona attacker claimed that it was a mistake for director Deco to sign Vitor Roque and burden him with the pressure of playing for such a big club immediately.
“Vitor Roque is a young player who has a future, but Barça made a mistake when he brought him in January,” Rivaldo stated.
“Barcelona had to deal with him like Real Madrid deals with their talents, signing with them and leaving them in their clubs for a while.”
Barcelona made the wrong call in signing Vitor Roque

Barcelona currently have a young side, and La Masia products such as Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal are thriving.
However, in January, Xavi wanted an experienced midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets. Instead, Deco chose to sign Roque, who had shown signs of talent in Brazil, but has now been deemed too raw and way off the required level.
If Barcelona were to invest in such talents, there is merit in letting them gain more experience on loan, but desperation at the time led them to spend heavily to bring him in as a first-team member.
Not only has this harmed Roque’s development, but it came at a heavy financial cost for Barcelona, and the move has been an unmitigated disaster as he may now leave on loan in the summer.
