Barcelona have suffered so far from the controversial decision to spend heavily on Brazilian striker Vitor Roque in the January transfer window.
Roque arrived as a highly rated prospect, but for a huge fee at a time where the club has been struggling financially.
Director Deco and then-manager Xavi disagreed on the decision to bring Roque in, and there eventually became a feeling at the club that the 19-year-old was some way off the required level.
New manager Hansi Flick may now offer the Brazilian a lifeline at Barcelona though, as the club have made a decision over his future.
Vitor Roque to stay at Barcelona to continue his development
A report from Spanish outlet SPORT has now revealed that Flick intends to keep Roque at Barcelona, where he can develop as a backup to Robert Lewandowski.
Roque’s camp, who were unhappy with Xavi’s lack of faith in the youngster, are said to be satisfied that he will gain more opportunities next season.
Barcelona’s financial situation means that a new signing in attack is highly unlikely, and Flick is therefore prepared to work with the squad he has available including Roque.
Barcelona can try to unlock the potential of Vitor Roque

Roque was seen as one of the most promising talents in Brazil when he moved to Barcelona, and the size of the transfer fee involved shows how highly regarded he was when he first arrived.
Although he had a tough few months after initially arriving earlier than expected, the striker now has the chance for a fresh start under Flick, as well as a full pre-season and time to bed into the squad, given his lack of participation in the upcoming Copa America with Brazil.
If Flick can help unlock Roque’s potential, he may end up becoming the true successor to the ageing Lewandowski.
